Van Halen is an American rock band formed in the late 1970’s. Band members consisted of guitarist Eddie Van Halen, bassist Michael Anthony, vocalist David Lee Roth, and drummer Alex Van Halen. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen are brothers. In 1978, Van Halen released their self- titled debut album. The album was an immediate success selling over 10 million copies in the U.S. The album introduced Eddie Van Halen’s skill on guitar with the instrumental, “Eruption”. Other hits from the album include “You Really Got Me”, “Ain’t Talkin’ Bout’ Love”, “Runnin’ With the Devil”, and “Jamie’s Cryin”. One year later Van Halen would released their second album titled Van Halen II. The album went to number 6 on the charts and sold 5 million copies, only half of what their debut album sold. Hits include “Dance the Night Away”, and “Beautiful Girls”. In 1980, the band released their third album titled Women and Children First. The album sold slightly less than Van Halen’s second album with sales around 3 million copies and included the hit “And the Cradle Will Rock”. In 1981, Van Halen released their fourth album, Fair Warning, which sold a little less than its predecessor. The album included the hit “Unchained”. In 1982, the band released their fifth album, Diver Down. The album sold around 4 million copies. In 1984, Van Halen released their sixth album titled 1984. The album sold the most copies of any Van Halen album, and charted at number 2. The album included many hits some of which included “Jump” and “Panama”. After this album, vocalist David Lee Roth left the band after a falling out between him and guitarist Eddie Van Halen.
