Kansas is an American rock band formed in the early 1970's. Members include Robby Steinhardt (vocals, violin, cello), Steve Walsh (vocals and keyboard), Rich Williams (guitarist), Dave Hope (bass), Phil Ehart (drums) are some of the early members of Kansas. In March of 1974, Kansas released their debut album. The band slowly gained popularity through extensive touring while recording their second and third albums, Song for America and Masque. Their fourth album, Leftoverture, was released in 1976 produced the group’s first single “Carry on Wayward Son” in 1977. Later that year Kansas released their fifth album, Point of Know Return with the title track and “Dust in the Wind” “Carry on Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind” both went gold as singles and the albums they were on were later classified as Platinum albums. “Carry on Wayward Son” is the second most played song on classic rock radio. The band released a live album, Two For the Show, in 1978. Kansas reached its peak in popularity in the late 70’s. Kansas released its seventh album in 1980. Audio-Visions charted lower than its two predecessors and included the top 40 hit “Hold On”. In 1983 Kansas released their next album. Drastic Measures charted lower than all of the Kansas albums since Masque. The band temporarily broke up after this album. They next made a greatest hits album titled “Greatest Hits” in 1984. The band reformed and made two albums “Power” and “In the Spirit of Things”. The band is still together and does some touring and is regaining popularity.
